“Fairy Tale” is a contemporary urban fantasy, rooted in British folklore, which explores a question those of us who read fantasy must often push to the back of our minds: why doesn’t anyone just think the character is mad? I’m almost ashamed to say that this is the first time I’ve read Graham Joyce because I have clearly been missing out on reading a master artist. “Some Kind of Fairy Tale” is that rare thing: a book both immaculately crafted and enthralling. Every writer should read this book, particularly if they have ever thought about playing with multiple narrative viewpoints.
